Kelly In Catty

This blog is Kell's attempt to keep in touch with friends far away who complain that I don't e-mail nearly enough.

My Thirty-sixth October

Ok - well, it's been really a crazy time lately - and I've been dying to write to tell you that I finally got to be one of those unfortunate people who got invited to a costume party - only to discover that it wasn't really a costume party... It wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been... I was dressed in scrubs. Dave was dressed in flannel pants and a bathrobe...

Ok. It was awful for Dave. Not only was he the only one in costume, but my friends started playing a game... and Dave hates games... but he, in his robe and his jammies played anyway...

The only saving grace was Jenny, the last one to come to the party... She was actually IN COSTUME...

But. She was dressed as Pam - From The Office...

The problem is - She frequently dresses somewhat similarly to Pam in her everyday life - those 364 days of the year not designated as costume-wearing days... so that essentially left me as the only pseudo medical professional at the party and Dave as the only pseudo sickie...

But enough about that.

Last weekend I shot a wedding on a Saturday that astounded me. Everyone was nice... Everyone was polite... No one was rude... the videographer wasn't obnoxious... wait for it - wait for it... AND NEITHER WAS THE DJ!!!! It was amazing.

The next day, the band played a five hour gig - that was amazing - but made me realize one really important thing: I'm getting old.

See? I'm a photographer right? I use my left hand to hold my rather heavy digital SLR camera in place while I press the shutter button with my right hand. I heft that big heavy camera in my left hand for about 8 hours. Then? On Sunday? I use that same hand and arm to make chords... Even though many of the songs my band plays may only have THREE chords, I have to play those three chords for approximately 3-5 minutes per song - for FIVE HOURS...

My left shoulder was killing me. I was pretty sure I was dying. I came home - unscrewed it from my body - just for the relief... And sure enough - by Monday - I felt a lot better... But the fact that I'm starting to feel like I'm aging... is bothering me.... and this hasn't happened before... I had no problem with my thirtieth birthday... no problem with my 35th - but this shoulder thing? Really crappy... AND my eyes aren't as great as they used to be... My father was right. I shouldn't have gotten old. He told me never to get old.

So that was my weekend.

The only other things I have to tell you about is Trick-or-Treating - where Dave and I - LAST THURSDAY - (don't ask me why my town has trick-or-treating on a THURSDAY... Six days before the actual day when every conservatively-dressing woman in America is claiming to be Pam Beasley... I have no good answer) We had about a hundred trick-0r-Treaters... About 400 fewer than I thought I was going to get - which is why my boss yelled at me the other day for bringing so much candy into the office. And this has been my 36th October.

Very Bridget Jones, being the only ones in costume. Sounds like you handled it well though. I would have been miserable!

Aren't we all getting old? Get a kid. You will feel old and YOUNG all at the same time. Today I ran through the house (carrying baby) and screaming CRACKER over and over with the baby roaring in laughter! At the end, there was indeed a cracker in baby's hand. Sometimes you just have to let the inner child out.

Repeative motion injury is now my middle name. Baby gates. So many times a day. My right thumb is about to fall off and the pain - GOOD LORD. So glad baby is in care a few hours each day so that I can leave the gates undone and walk around without using my thumb.

Oh and I stepped on a small toy yesterday and permanently bruised my left instep/sole. OUCH. MFu. I was in pain for like 3 hours.

Would rather be at a party dressed in costume playing games. Hugs to Dave who is a jewel.

I once dressed like Pam from The Office! I even made a nametag with my picture on it, and a necklace made of paperclips. I'm glad you had someone else who was dressed up with you, though!!
